Region of New South Wales

Welcome,  by President Karen FOrd 2016-2018

Soroptimist International Region of NSW is a vibrant, dynamic volunteer organisation for women who want to make a difference in the lives of women and girls. Since 1948 our members have been working together on local, national and international projects to benefit women and girls.

Why just women and girls? Because women and girls continue to be the most oppressed and underprivileged in our society. Through our theme "Educate to Lead" we are committed to enabling women and girls achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and to have an equal voice in creating strong peaceful communities.

In New South Wales there are 11 Clubs, and each has it's own information page within this website. Each Club decides and works on it's own projects, carrying out fund raising activities to support them. This year we will be embarking on a Region Project involving some advocacy. We also support Federation Projects, the current project being "Birthing in the Pacific" which involves training and supporting midwives in Papua New Guinea. An International Project that we will be supporting is "See Solar, Cook Solar" which will raise funds, and awareness, for the provision of solar cooking equipment in communities where there is no electricity. The projects, and fund raising efforts are many and varied. The members aim to have fun as well with social activities. Most meetings have an interesting Guest Speaker.

Soroptimist International is active at all the major UN centres around the world. We hold General Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council, (ECOSOC), and work with other NGO's at the UN Commission of the Status of Women.

If you want to make a difference, if you care about issues that affect women and girls, why not consider becoming a member.

Membership is open to all females whether working or retired. You will have the opportunity to meet and work with women in your community, enjoying friendship, service and fun while working together on projects to benefit women and girls.
